Nestled in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, Da Raffaele offers a quintessential Italian dining experience that transports you straight to an old-world trattoria. This charming Italian restaurant at 883 1st Ave is a beloved neighborhood gem, where passion for traditional cuisine meets a warm, intimate atmosphere perfect for both casual lunches and romantic dinners.
The menu is a delightful journey through authentic Italian flavors, showcasing a well-curated selection of pasta, seafood, and meat dishes that appeal to both adventurous palates and comfort food lovers alike. Standout pasta options include the Pennoni, generously stuffed with cauliflower, cabbage, sausage, and smothered in a rich parmesan cheese sauce, and the Spaghetti prepared with pecorino cheese, black pepper, and tender artichokes—a soulful take reminiscent of cacio e pepe but elevated by fresh garden notes.
Seafood lovers will revel in fresh catches such as the grilled mixed seafood Grigliata, the delicate Seared Sea Scallops paired with asparagus puree, and the robust Monkfish with pureed artichokes. Each dish is thoughtfully balanced to highlight freshness and texture—the melt-in-your-mouth swordfish accompanied by artichokes and the smoked mozzarella stuffed scallops are particularly memorable.
Meat selections like the succulent Rack of Lamb and the exquisitely tender Stuffed Quail add a gourmet touch that complements the more familiar pasta and seafood offerings. The homey feel of the kitchen shines through with dishes like the homemade lasagna layered with béchamel and Bolognese sauce and the gnocchi prepared with fresh tomato and basil, evoking comforting nostalgia with every bite.
Dessert here is a treat not to be missed. Patrons rave about the Lava Cake, rich and molten, alongside a pistachio cake that brings a subtle nutty sweetness, and the creamy, luscious Strawberry Tiramisu. These sweets perfectly cap off a meal that is deeply satisfying and thoughtfully prepared.
Beyond the food, the atmosphere at Da Raffaele is imbued with heartfelt hospitality and a palpable passion for Italian culinary traditions. Owner Mr. Raffaele himself is often present, greeting guests with genuine warmth that makes you feel like part of a close-knit Italian family. Reviewers consistently praise the attentive, accommodating staff and the cozy ambiance, which blends the elegance of a refined dining room with the inviting charm of a neighborhood trattoria.
Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply seeking a memorable Italian meal in New York City, Da Raffaele delivers an experience that is as heartfelt as it is delicious. It’s a place where every dish tells a story, every bite is crafted with care, and every visit feels like coming home.
An old world type of Italian restaurant. The food is quite good. Just slightly under the top tier Italians in the city. I quite liked the stuffed zucchini blossoms and the pomodoro salad with celery and anchovy. The spaghetti was like a cacio E pepi with the addition of artichokes. The chocolate mousse dessert was very tasty. All in all this is a charming neighborhood Italian with very good food and top notch service. I look forward to returning.
Excellent intimate place for our Anniversary dinner, the owner and waiter were extremely accommodating! The food, drinks, and wine were excellent(all while being fairly priced for a Mid Town restaurant). In particular the lava cake and pistachio cake were amazing. It’s always a pleasure to eat somewhere that you can see and taste the passion the owner and staff have for their craft. We will certainly be returning when we are back in NYC.
Highly recommend. Me and my father came here short on time. We realized the food might be taking a while and so we told our waiter. He understood right away. It became a literal "fast food" experience. My ravioli showed up within ten minutes of ordering and they fixed up my dad's chicken order as a "to-go" even though my father ordered it as a dine in! Where else are you going to see that. And to top it all off the food as good, nice, hearty Italian food. What is not to love! I would definitely reccomend!
We stumbled into this place and we're so glad we did. Mr Raffael himself was taking care of us and you can tell how passionate he is about his business. They waiterd were all very attentive and took very good care of everyone in the restaurant. We ordered the spaghetti and the beef ragu special of the day, both of which were incredible. The meatballs had cheese inside which was a first for me and I loved it, and the sauce and pasta were so fresh! Lastly, the Sorbetto was such a refreshing end to the meal. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu.
This was seriously the best pasta I’ve ever had! Stepping off the plane and almost immediately to the restaurant, the owner was the first person we talked to in NYC. He made us feel right at home and was so kind and welcoming and made our experience even better! Per my adventurous self, I ordered the octopus and muscle linguine and enjoyed it thoroughly. My sister got the risotto, which was 10/10! My Mom ordered the owners recommendation, the duck pasta, and it was one of the best dishes I’ve had in my life. The homemade pasta was cooked perfectly. This was the most wonderful way to start our trip! Thank you, Da Raffaele!
I’m pretty sure my eyes rolled back in my head and I swooned over their eggplant rollatini and that was just the appetizer. Salmon roll with ricotta and spinach with fresh basil for entree and crème brûlée with berries for dessert. The owner was right there and the staff was delightful. This is a jewel of a place. I will visit anytime I come back!
Had the wild boar linguine, spaghetti and meatballs. Rigatoni with eggplant puree, gnocchi , calamari, crab cakes, tiramisu ice cream, peach cake and cannoli. Favorites were: meatballs, boar, crab cakes and cannolis. Excellent service and food!
Absolutely one of the best places we’ve ever eaten in the city. Started with the Cesar salad, fresh hot bacon. Perfect. We ordered a bottle of wine they didn’t have in stock, but the one he suggested was far better than we imagined. Perfectly paired with our dinner She had the rigatoni and had the parm crusted steak. Everything was cooked to perfection. They brought the baby out a bowl of buttered pasta which she inhaled. The baby was enamored with the Raffaele’s buttons, he came out and handed her a couple to keep. One with a smile and one with the Italian flag. Adorable. For dessert we had a couple whiskeys and chocolate lava cake. Stunning. Perfect night. Cannot recommend this place anymore.
